The main story line is from Mahabharata so the makers really needed to push the boundaries in execution, what can I say they did but did they pull it off exceptionally well or were they flawed? I’ve tried to break down my thoughts on each major area without introducing any spoilers or too many negative connotations. Dialogues: Not much to say about these, they are what you would expect from a sci-fi movie (some hi-fi English vocabulary paired with modern Hindi) and archaic Hindi style (sanksritised) which is generally seen in Hindu adaptations epics. Characters: Sorry to say this but the chemistry between Bhairava & Bujji is almost non-existent. They talked about things other than rewards and work, but the end result was too many puns and attempts to make the audience laugh, which left nothing in common between them. The portrayal of Prabhas’ character was a little tiring in the beginning. The interactions between Bhairav and anyone were very, very boring.
Then Deepika Padukone’s character
Besides, he wasn’t a formidable force, and he certainly wasn’t Ashwatthama. I really feel like the creator didn’t give any character the power they deserve. For example, the powers of Ashwatthama are tied to land, they only work in extreme cases. Bhairava does divine damage as a human. "Other enemies" they are literally Stormtroopers and sometimes really stupid. It was handled appropriately according to her and according to the plot, so no complaints. The remaining characters are nothing to write home about, nothing of the same magnitude as the main 3 characters.
Ashwatthama’s flashbacks were really good (as was his character)
Story & Execution: The start of the first half was too drawn out, with much of that drawn out time going to Bhairav (intros and fillers). On the other hand, his interactions with others were extremely boring. There were many continuity errors, such as skipping crucial bridging scenes and suddenly changing the theme of a scene. Moreover, the story (relating to the Mahabharata) was told excellently. You really felt the stakes were high throughout the film.
