From the chilling to the audacious, here are five body horror movies you may have missed
Story
A fading celebrity takes a black market drug – a substance that replicates cells and temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself. There’s nothing scarier than being human, and these movies fully explore the inhuman ways our bodies can betray us. Ray Liotta was cast in the film in February 2022, but died in May of that year before he could film his scenes.
Elisabeth Sparkle: There has been some slight misuse of the substance
Dennis Quaid replaced him, but Liotta is still mentioned in the director’s “Thank You Notes” during the credits. The toilet mirror reappears intact after being repeatedly smashed during the fight sequence. Special thanks are given in the credits to the many extras in the theater scene, who were left covered in blood.
It’s an experience, to say the least
Featured on The 7PM Project: Episode from September 20, 2024 (2024). Pump It Up Written by Michael Hall, Leonardo Stella Performed by Earl Gregory Produced by Julien Deguines This is one of those movies that wouldn’t do it justice if watched at home. You have to be in a packed theater, feel the waves and surges of energy from the crowd.
But it’s worth it
You’ll laugh, you’ll look away, your jaw will drop, you’ll feel uncomfortable. It’s incredible filmmaking, award-winning acting, and a killer soundtrack all rolled into one. Big props to Demi for taking on such a vulnerable role while dealing with a topic that’s rarely talked about.
Just be aware that this is NOT a movie you want to get high on before watching
I look forward to seeing what comes out of this, hopefully there will be more open conversations within the industry and more doors opened than closed. Check out our list of exciting new films from this year’s film festivals, including Venice, TIFF, the New York Film Festival and more.
